Magnum P.I. gets a new sequel series

‘Magnum P.I.’ is back… with a new show at ABC.

The much-loved American crime drama will be heading back to our screens. But don’t expect to find Tom Selleck in the leading role. ‘Magnum P.I.’ is heading back to ABC with a brand new series that’s essentially going to act as a sequel. But the original Magnum is nowhere to be found.

Instead, the new ‘Magnum P.I.’ is Magnum’s daughter.

“ABC is teaming with Leverage creator John Rogers and producer Eva Longoria for a Magnum P.I. sequel focusing on the daughter of the iconic character played by Tom Selleck,” revealed The Hollywood Reporter. “The potential series is described as an action-packed drama in the same style as the original.”

And they’ve even provided some details about Magnum’s daughter.

Lily ‘Tommy’ Magnum returns to Hawaii to take up the mantle of her father’s P.I. business. And with a band of loyal friends, they find themselves entangled in the seedy underbelly of international crime and espionage.

And apparently, she’s still investigating a blown spy ring which led to her career in Navy intelligence being cut short.

Intriguing.

There’s currently no word on who will be playing female Magnum, but John Rogers will pen the script himself, aiming for a full-blown revival on ABC.

Of course, ‘Magnum PI’ isn’t the only classic crime drama to be getting a new series, with ‘MacGyver’ also set to head back to our screens, starring Lucas Till in the leading role.

Do any of these classic shows really need to be remade? Most importantly, will the new versions be any good?

For now, we have to wait and see.
