MAFS Australia's Richard talks "awkward" reunion scenes that got cut

Married at First Sight Australia star Richard Sauerman has called his scenes that were cut from the show reunion as "awkward".

The reality TV star was matched with co-star Andrea Thompson for this year's experiment, but despite a strong start to the TV marriage, things fell apart after the couple struggled to communicate properly. The two eventually called it quits during the show's sixth commitment ceremony.

Both Andrea and Richard returned for the reunion episodes, which aired on E4 this week, but viewers didn't see them have a couple catch up session with the experts.

In an interview on the Behind The Edit podcast, Richard confirmed that they did film a catch up on the sofa but that it didn't make it to air - calling the scenes "awkward".

"We were filmed that night," he said. "They filmed six couples but only five went to air, we didn’t go to air. They missed the six minute highlight reel of our relationship.

"Why it didn’t go to air I have no idea, I think you might want to ask Andie that question. Maybe she has an answer to that."

Discussing how their catch up with the experts went, Richard added: "[It was] a bit awkward, to be honest. We didn’t leave on good terms.

"We had exchanged a few text messages between leaving and between there [the reunion] but no real massive, meaningful contact."

Richard felt that Andie was a "bit stand-offish" during their reunion, but confirmed that they left things on good terms.

"I said on the couch I’d really like to be friends with Andie and they asked her if that was possible and she said ‘yeah, sure that’s possible’, so we kind of left on that note."

Of the twelve couples that were matched together on the 2024 series, only Jack and Tori remain together, with both Sara and Tim and Eden and Jayden recently confirming their splits on social media.
