Madonna’s Bizarre Clown-Themed Show, Featuring Ex Sean Penn, Will Set You Back $5,000

How much would you pay to see Madonna in concert? Fifty bucks? A hundred? Nothing? How about $5,000?

The high-price tickets are for a special one-off show called Tears of a Clown on Dec. 2 at Miami’s Art Basel, an annual art show that attracts a who’s who of the rich and famous.

Tears of a Clown consists of Madonna, dressed as a clown, singing a variety of songs from her catalog. The only other time she performed the show was earlier this year in Australia, and it was overshadowed by speculation that she was drunk. And she was four hours late.

A $5,000 clown-themed performance might sound like a total waste of money to you, which is why the entire thing is for Madonna’s charity. Proceeds will benefit Raising Malawi, which aids orphans and fights poverty. The singer has a special connection to the African country as her two adopted children, David and Mercy, were born there.

But, of course, five grand gets you more than just a weird circus performance starring Madonna. James Corden will be hosting the event, and special guests include Madonna’s ex-husband Sean Penn, singer Ariana Grande, and real-life clown Chris Rock.

If $5,000 is chump change to you, ponying up $150,000 gets you access to the VIP cocktail reception and dinner. And for the real high rollers, Madonna will auction off items from her personal art collection, including a Picasso.
