It’s well known that country singer Kacey Musgraves has major love for the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo — and one of its signature pink treats in particular.

Now that love has been immortalized in song.

Musgraves released her fifth album, “Deeper Well,” on March 15. The seventh song off the record, “Dinner with Friends,” lists things the popular artist would miss when she dies.

Partway through the list? “The layers and ruffles in my favorite pink champagne cake,” the singer croons.

Now at first this may seem like a somewhat general thing to include — there are plenty of bakeries that offer fluffy pink cakes, after all.

But Musgraves has already confirmed that it’s about none other than the Madonna Inn’s beloved dessert.

“I really debated on whether it should be ‘my favorite’ or ‘this certain,’” Musgraves said in a recent episode of American Express’s Story of My Song where she explains the lyrics. “Because it is this certain cake, from this one place — it’s called the Madonna Inn. It’s like this layered, pink, beautiful, ‘50s-looking cake, and it’s the best thing in the world.”

The inclusion in a song is perhaps not surprising.

In 2022, Musgraves gave a shoutout for the sweet treat during a sold-out performance at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

“They have this thing there called the pink champagne cake?” Musgraves said in front of the crowd of 20,000 screaming fans. “I live for this confection.”

During that concert, Musgraves revealed she had struck a deal with the hotel to provide her with a couple of their pink champagne cakes in return for concert tickets.

On her Instagram story, Kacey Musgraves showed off the two pink champagne cakes she had delivered from the Madonna Inn to her concert at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Feb. 20, 2022.

A pair of Madonna Inn employees then drove the fragile cakes four hours from San Luis Obispo to Musgraves’ dressing room ahead of the concert.

“We had no idea that she was gonna say something on stage,” Amanda Rich, marketing manager for the Madonna Inn, said at the time. “It just kind of shows the kind of person she is, that she would actually say something, you know, in front of all her fans. It was just amazing.”

When reached for comment on the local dessert’s lyrical debut Tuesday, Rich told The Tribune it was “beyond cool.”

“We are honored!” she said. “We would love to be able to deliver another cake to her.”
