Madison shooting deemed accident, charges possible

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — The Madison Police Department (MPD) says the shooting of a child at a Madison gas station last week has been deemed an accident, though charges are still possible.

Madison Police said on Friday a shooting at the Twice Daily gas station on Graphics Drive in Madison around 12:21 p.m. left a child injured. HEMSI told News 19 that the child was transported in a personal vehicle before they were met by HEMSI crews at Governors Drive and 5th Street in Huntsville and taken to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services.

Madison Police Capt. Terrell Cook said Monday that based on all available evidence it appears that the firearm in the shooting was accidentally discharged.

Cook said that according to the child’s family, they are doing well and are expected to make a full recovery.

MPD said they are consulting with the Madison County District Attorney’s Officer on the possibility of criminal charges.
