Madison County judge bars Alainah Dailey from protesting in Decatur

Mar. 22—Vocal Decatur city and police critic Alainah Dailey will stay out of jail as long as she doesn't protest in Decatur or contact Mayor Tab Bowling while her case in Madison County is pending, a judge ruled Tuesday.

"Defendant is to cease and desist all protests in the City of Decatur and may not participate in any future protests while this case remains active," Madison County District Judge Ron Smith ordered.

Dailey was charged with disorderly conduct while protesting outside of Bowling's home on Feb. 9, and the arrest landed her in violation of her probation for a previous misdemeanor charge. Consequently, she spent 27 days in Morgan County Jail before she was finally released after pleading guilty.

Upon her release, she was transferred to Madison County Jail and spent a week inside, as her disorderly conduct charge also violated pretrial release conditions related to a felony charge there.

At the request of Dailey's attorney, Smith allowed her to go free, with an ankle monitor, ahead of her March 19 bond revocation hearing, according to court records. At the hearing, Smith ruled that Dailey could remain out of jail with electronic supervision while her case moves along.
