At San Diego's Comic-Con, Warner Bros revealed a first look at its reboot of the famous dystopian trilogy. The new trailer is Tom Hardy's debut as the antihero Max, originally played by Mel Gibson.
"My name is Max. My world is fire and blood." Fans of three original action films, released between 1979 and 1985, will likely not be disappointed by this first trailer.
The video reveals a post-apocalyptic future that is at least as dark and violent as the one depicted in George Miller's original trilogy. Heat, dust and fleets of rusty vehicles patched together with makeshift repairs... In this desolate setting, two groups are engaged in a violent war. Just under three minutes, the trailer is a series of stunning images that are alternately beautiful and disturbing, all scored by the sounds of rumbling motors, explosions and an unexpected cover of Cat Stevens' "Wild World."
Max, played by Tom Hardy, is captured, tortured and tied to the front of one of the vehicles of the band of desert punks. He is saved by a rival gang led by Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron with a shaved head and bionic arms.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" arrives in US theaters on May 15, 2015.
