After years of lighting up the East River, the nation's largest Independence Day celebration is relocating. For the first time in more than a decade, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will be illuminating the New York City skyline from the Hudson River.
"This year’s Macy’s 4th of Fireworks display will launch an inspiring spectacle of patriotic color, light and sound from the Hudson River for the first time in more than a decade. Marking the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration, the display will offer a showstopping and high-flying salute to the nation," Will Coss, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, said in a statement.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has expressed his excitement about viewing the spectacle from the Garden State's "backyard." He said, "New Jersey is proud to celebrate Independence Day this year with a dazzling display of fireworks planned in collaboration with our neighbors across the Hudson."
The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, which have been a New York City tradition since 1976, introduced its first-ever live drone show last year. Coss has teased that the "team has been hard at work developing new ways to surprise and delight" fans.
