Macon Co. Sheriff’s Office reveals new details in deadly Hervey City shooting

HERVEY CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Macon County Sheriff’s Office has released new information revealing what led to a shooting in Hervey City that left a man dead Monday afternoon.

Officials said Gregory Hostetler, 48, and Kolby Sunderland, 18, were the victims of the shooting and the suspect is Tiimon Perry, 25. Hostetler and Sunderland own and work at Five Star Auto Sales and Greg’s Towing and Recovery, where the shooting happened.

The investigation found that earlier in the day, Hostetler and Sunderland towed a vehicle that Perry came to retrieve around 2:40 pm. The three started arguing over the cost of the tow, which escalated to a physical altercation. During that altercation, officials said Perry pulled out a gun and shot Hostetler in the head, killing him.

Officials said Sunderland was shot in the shoulder when he tried to wrestle the gun away from Perry. Despite the injury, Sunderland was successful, gained control of the gun and then shot Perry in the testicular area.

Sunderland and Perry were both taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Sunderland has since been released while Perry is still recovering from surgery. He has been placed under arrest and he remains in custody at the hospital.

Perry has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in connection to Monday’s shooting. In addition, he also has prior warrants for vehicular invasion and aggravated fleeing and eluding. Officials added that Perry was not legally authorized to be in possession of the gun used in the shooting.

The Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and officials said additional charges are likely.
