Macaulay Culkin Says the Pizza Underground Are No More

Macaulay Culkin is the latest guest on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, where he revealed that his long-running Velvet Underground cover band, the Pizza Underground, is officially no more. “It was a lark that we did—we did like an open mic thing and then we recorded something in my living room. And then just put it online and kinda forgot about it,” Culkin said, referring to the band’s 2013 demo. When asked about why he decided to bring it to a close, he said, “I was a little tired of it, to be completely honest.”

While the Pizza Underground may be coming to an end, we might see new music from the parody group yet. Back in 2016, Culkin announced that the band were working on a full-length album, complete with “a children’s choir” and “a symphony orchestra.” In an interview with Pitchfork last year, around his Culkin-starring music video for Father John Misty, director Adam Green gave an update on that album. “I don’t know when it’s going to come out, but it’s pretty serious,” he said. “They did a full-on album with orchestration and it’s pretty intense, so I guess at some point people will hear from the Pizza Underground again.”
