Look what she made us do.

At an Attleboro, Massachusetts, press conference about affordable housing, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey called Rhode Island "whatever" when answering a question about people from the Bay State moving just over the border for cheaper home prices. A ranch-style home in Rhode Island is about $50,000 cheaper than it would be in Massachusetts, according to real estate agents.

"Some of you bop over to Rhode Island," she said, somewhat dismissively. "It's nice to visit. You can shop there. You can go have a meal. You can gamble. Whatever."

And while we could just shake it off, Gov. Dan McKee appears to have taken to X, formerly called Twitter, to defend Rhode Island's reputation.

Without directly referencing Healey's remarks, he posted, "With over 400 miles of coastline and an unmatched culinary scene, Rhode Island will 'never go out of style' and it’s no wonder we’re everyone’s 'wildest dreams.'"

The post was accompanied by a parody of the Taylor's Version 1989 album cover, which is set to be released on Friday. As everyone knows, the pop star has a house in Rhode Island, not Massachusetts. (Though no one would claim Holiday House in Watch Hill – which she wrote a song about – is affordable housing.)

Other reactions to Maura Healey's comments

McKee is not the only one who took the bait and has responded to Healey's remarks.

Rhode Island Commerce took the opportunity to remind people that moving from Massachusetts to Rhode Island for a better life has been a thing since before the United States was a country.

In response to the clip shared by WPRI's Ted Nesi, they responded, "People have been leaving Massachusetts for Rhode Island since 1636. #RogerWilliams."

As people who know the state's places, they took advantage of the online chatter to point out that Rhode Island does have a great dining and shopping scene.

Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos also took the chance to hype the Ocean State.

"'Whatever*'" she posted. "*Watch world-class sailing from the cliffs of Newport, visit the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, experience one of the best arts scenes in America… If you want to know all the reasons people are visiting and moving to RI, try http://visitrhodeisland.com!"
