Portland nuclear company NuScale Power sees cost rise for first project

Cost estimates for energy from NuScale Power’s first planned small modular reactor deployment have jumped, raising concerns among participating utilities but so far apparently not shaking their commitment. Higher steel prices and interest rates are behind the forecast run-up in energy costs from the Portland company’s planned six-module project in Idaho, the trade publication Utility Dive reported. The news broke as NuScale (NYSE: SMR) said it was near to securing a second customer.
