Trump reportedly directed $2.3 million owed to him to his tax-exempt foundation

Donald Trump instructed companies that owed him money to pay his tax-exempt foundation instead, The Washington Post reported, citing people familiar with the transactions.

His campaign said Trump paid taxes for one of the payments — $400,000 from Comedy Central for his 2011 "roast" appearance — but did not respond to questions about the others, according to the Post.

The newspaper, citing sources, said Trump instructed a New York ticket broker to pay $1.9 million to the foundation for goods and services including tickets to events.

The two donations totaling $2.3 million accounted for half the money given to the Trump Foundation since 2008, according to the newspaper.

Trump's presidential campaign and foundation did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
