The Times’ story focuses on Victorina Morales, a Guatemalan woman who traveled illegally to the United States in 1999, and Sandra Diaz, a Costa Rican immigrant who has since obtained legal status. Morales and Diaz claim that at least two supervisors working for the golf club knew they weren’t legal residents when they were hired—Diaz in 2010 and Morales in 2013—and even helped employees skirt more strict documentation regulations in 2017.
