Hugh Downs, former TODAY anchor and legendary newsman, dead at 99

Veteran TV journalist and former TODAY anchor Hugh Downs died Wednesday at the age of 99 in his Scottsdale, Arizona, home, his great-niece has confirmed. Downs, who also hosted the game show “Concentration” in the 1950s and ‘60s, was part of “The Tonight Show” when it launched in 1957 with Jack Paar, serving as the announcer and guest host. While with TODAY, he would also work with a producer who would later sit beside him on “20/20”: Barbara Walters.
