Job Openings Fall More Than Forecast. It’s a Sign Labor Demand Is Moderating.

Job openings declined in August and were about 1 million less than economists expected, revealing a cooling of the strong U.S. labor market. The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey for August, reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed the number of job openings decreased to 10.1 million in August, down from 11.2 million the month before. The largest decreases in job openings were in healthcare and social assistance, other services and retail trade, according to the Labor Department.
