U.S. officials said Monday that Russia faces “significant and severe economic harm” if it invades Ukraine, and that President Joe Biden will convey the message to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a videoconference the two leaders will hold later Tuesday. The White House said that Biden held a call Monday with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the U.K., and that the allies talked about the Russian military buildup on Ukraine’s borders and Russia’s increasingly harsh rhetoric, and that they agreed “on a coordinated and comprehensive approach.” A White House official also said Monday that the “path forward (…) would involve substantial economic countermeasures by both the Europeans and the United States.”
