New car registrations–a reflection of sales–declined 23% year-on-year to 718,598 vehicles for the month, said the association, also known as ACEA. “This decrease in sales was largely caused by a lack of supply of vehicles due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage,” it said. Meanwhile, new passenger-car registrations across the EU in the first nine months of the year rose 6.6% to 7.5 million, ACEA said.
