Lunchroom Ladies lottery club wins big — leaving ticket holder in ‘complete shock’

Members of a 21-person lottery club were left in disbelief after winning a huge Mega Millions prize in Michigan.

The group of Milford coworkers, who call themselves the Lunchroom Ladies, matched five balls in the Jan. 16 drawing to win a $1 million prize.

“I checked the ticket at a store and when I found out we’d won $1 million, I was in complete shock!” one of the club members told Michigan Lottery officials in a May 15 news release. “I called all the club members and told them we won big, but a lot of them had a hard time believing me at first.”

Mega Millions costs $2 to play, and odds of winning $1 million are 1-in-12,607,306. Had the group also matched the Mega Ball number, they would have won the estimated jackpot of $208 million.

Still, the group is more than thrilled with their big win.

“Everyone in our club agrees that winning feels like a dream and it still hasn’t fully sunk in for anyone yet,” Marc Swoish, the group’s representative, told lottery officials.

Milford is about a 40-mile drive northwest of Detroit.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
