Lumberton man charged in Robeson County crash that killed 1, injured another

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A Lumberton man has been charged in a deadly crash that killed a woman and injured another person Sunday night in Robeson County, according to 1st Sgt. Brent Lewis with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Highway 711 at Chicken Road near Pembroke. The highway patrol said a 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Highway 711 when it failed to stop at a red light and hit a 2005 Cadillac Escalade, which was going north on Chicken Road.

The driver and a front-seat passenger in the Cadillac Escalade were thrown from the vehicle, killing Ernest Pevia, the passenger, according to the highway patrol. The driver was taken to UNC-Health Southeastern with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Camry, Jordan Austin Locklear, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and a traffic light violation.

The highway patrol said alcohol impairment remains unknown and that Pevia was not wearing a seat belt.
