Mar. 19—On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci will become the latest recipient of the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government, joining the likes of Barack Obama and former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

The Paul H. Douglas Award is presented annually by the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs to a government official at any level or a private citizen who significantly contributed to the practice of ethical behavior and fair play in the government.

UI President Tim Killeen and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin will present the award to Fauci in Washington, D.C., at 6 p.m. tonight.

Fauci was chosen as this year's recipient in recognition of his career in public health.

Many people know him now for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was also an adviser to seven different U.S. presidents on global HIV/AIDS issues and preparedness against infectious-disease threats.

Fauci helped create the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and is currently a professor in Georgetown University's School of Medicine.
