‘Luke Cage’ Renewed for Season 2 on Marvel-Friendly Netflix

“Luke Cage,” the Netflix series based on the Marvel Comics character, has been picked up for its second season, it was announced Sunday on the show’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

The show stars Mike Colter as the bulletproof superhero of Harlem, is now streaming its 13-episode first season on the streaming giant.

The title character originated on “Jessica Jones” as Harlem’s hero, who was blessed with superhuman strength and impenetrable skin after a prison experiment went awry. In the series, he must stop running from his past and face those who want to shake Harlem to its very core.

Filming on “The Defenders,” which brings together Luke Cage, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, is now filming.

Netflix and Marvel Television have a five-season deal to produce live action series with Marvel the superhero characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage which involves the release of four 13-episode seasons that culminate in a mini-series called “The Defenders” the fifth season.
