Lucky store? Two big lottery wins at Lakeland station

LAKELAND, Tenn. — Lottery players with dreams of winning the nearly one billion dollar Powerball jackpot are flocking to a Lakeland gas station where two lottery players won big this week.

The Tennessee Lottery said Wednesday’s $470,000 Tennessee jackpot winner purchased their ticket at the Canada Road Exxon, and a $100,00 winning Powerball ticket was sold days earlier at the same store.

Employees said the back-to-back wins have big good for business.

“They think it’s going to happen again, which it always could,” said Hugh Presson.

Angela Rainey thinks the Exxon station is a lucky store. She stopped by there Thursday afternoon to pick up two Powerball tickets and a scratch-off ticket.

“I saw it on the news. So, I’m here to buy my winning ticket—my early retirement,” said Rainey.

The Tennessee Lottery said Monday’s Powerball drawing created thousands of winners, including four who matched four of the white balls plus the red Powerball to win the prize of $50,000. Two players, including the one in Lakeland, doubled their winnings to $100,00 using the Power Play option.

Presson said he has no idea who won the nearly half a million dollar Daily Tennessee Jackpot but has talked to the man who bought the $100,000 Powerball ticket.

“He’s just a local guy,” said Presson. “He came in Tuesday and said I heard we sold a $100,000 Powerball, and he said it’s me. At first, I didn’t believe him, but he showed me the picture. “

The current estimated jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing is $935 million.
