Lucky No. 5? David Foster pops the question to Katharine McPhee on European vacation
David Foster asked the big question, and Katharine McPhee said yes! The couple became engaged while on a European vacation this week.
A representative for McPhee confirmed the engagement to Yahoo Entertainment on Tuesday. Soon after, the Smash alum herself posted about it on social media. On Twitter, she posted an Ariana Grande gif, saying, “And what about it?” along with a ring emoji.

On Instagram, she shared a glimpse of how it went down by posting a screenshot of a conversation with Jared Eng of Just Jared. She wrote that Foster proposed on top of a mountain in Anacapri, which is on the Italian island of Capri, where they have been vacationing. She said it was completely dark out with only the stars shimmering. She also said he joked about pushing her off the mountain — um, OK.

TMZ was first to report the news, saying McPhee was flashing her new ring Sunday in Capri and was showing it to family and friends via FaceTime.
The one-time American Idol contestant also posted a few shots on social media of their time in Capri, including a bikini-clad shot of herself on a boat. Alas, her ring finger was hidden.

This marks the second wedding for the 34-year-old singer-actress and the fifth for her 68-year-old music mogul-composer beau. (His list of previous wives most recently includes Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid, and he’s also a grandfather of seven.)
McPhee and Foster have been dating since last year. At first they denied a romance, but they made it official in May when they made a memorable red-carpet appearance at the Met Gala.
Despite the couple’s age difference, McPhee is well-liked by Foster’s family, who apparently think the two are a fine match. Foster’s daughter Erin told People in October, “She’s amazing. … We really, really like her, and we’ve known her for a really long time. And if he’s happy, we’re happy.”
