LR Zoo introduces programs to lower admission prices for easier visitation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Zoo is introducing new programs that aim to make it easier for families with financial struggles to visit this year.

The Zoo Access for All initiative has two discount admission programs. Under the first program, admission will be $2 for the cardholder and five additional people when a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) card is presented.

The guest must have a valid SNAP card and a valid matching photo ID to purchase tickets. There is a six-ticket limit, and they must be purchased in person.

The second program, named Little Rock Community Days, will allow Little Rock residents to purchase tickets for $2 with a valid driver’s license, state ID or utility bill. The upcoming days are set for March 30, June 1, Sept. 28 and Dec. 14.

Little Rock Zoo Director Susan Altrui said that zoo officials are taking steps to involve and provide access to the community.

“We are proud of the steps we’re taking to ensure that our entire community can take advantage of our great Zoo,” Altrui said.

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. backed the new program, noting that the initiative brings equity and opportunity to the zoo.

“With the Zoo for All Initiative, we are bringing equity and opportunity to Arkansas’s only accredited Zoo,” Scott said. “Engagement and enjoyment at one of Little Rock’s most important quality-of-life amenities will be available to our residents and families. Our Zoo is taking a huge step toward making sure that everyone can enjoy and learn at this iconic cultural institution.”

The Little Rock Zoo hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last admission at 3:30 p.m.
