Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has revealed members of her family were left "sleeping outside" after a devastating earthquake in Turkey this week.

A pair of quakes have struck the region in the past week, the first with a 7.8 magnitude jolt near the Syrian border and the second in central Turkey.

While relief efforts are only in their earliest stages, it has been estimated that more than 12,000 people have been killed and more than 30,000 injured in both Turkey and Syria.

Ekin-Su, who had an entertainment career in Turkey before winning Love Island in the UK, has been using her social media to encourage her followers to support relief efforts because she has family in the region.

The influencer joined Sky News on Tuesday (February 7) to share what she knows about how her family has been coping with the natural disaster.

"I have members of my family who have obviously experienced the shake. They've been outside, they've been sleeping outside," she explained during her interview.

"It's scary because it's people who are very close to me."

Ekin-Su, who has recently been appearing on ITV's Dancing on Ice, also spoke about those connecting with her on social media to share their experiences in the aftermath of the quakes.

"I've had people on Instagram reach out to me. They've sent me locations and address[es], pictures live," she said. "It's just like they are screaming for help and I want to use my platform as much as I can to help anyone out there from Syria and Turkey."

The star rallied support on Instagram earlier today by sharing resources for followers to help, and stressed that she's "pleading we help [because] people are dying".

Former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, plus cast members Georgia Harrison and Luca Bish, are among those lending their support for Ekin-Su's relief campaigning.
