Which Louisiana zoo earned spot on USA Today’s 10Best list?

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — USA Today 10Best has ranked New Orleans’ Audubon Zoo as #7 on the list of Best Zoos in the country.

The decision was made by a team of travel industry experts and was based on votes from readers, according to leaders with the Audubon Institute.

This will mark the eighth year the zoo has made the list.

“We want every guest to have a memorable time visiting our attractions, and our teams work extremely hard to provide outstanding experiences,” said Audubon Nature Institute President and CEO Ron Forman.

Audubon leaders said the historic Uptown New Orleans Audubon Park, Audubon Zoo has consistently been one of the country’s top-rank zoos offering more than 50 acres of pathways and boardwalks overlooking a landscaped gardenlike setting.

The views include “innovative” natural habitat exhibits and a wide variety of over 1,700 animals representing more than 350 species. Audubon leaders highlight on the Louisiana Swamp exhibit featuring three black bears who they say delight guests with their antics.

The newest addition to the zoo is the “Wings of the World” exhibit, featuring over 60 birds from around the world, including endangered species such as the Guam Kingfisher and Bali Myna

Audubon leaders describe the exhibit as the largest and most immersive experience of its kind in the region.

It’s located in the restored Tropical Bird House and is part of the historic Odenheimer area at the zoo dating back to 1924.
