Louisiana State Police names new Troop NOLA commander

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Louisiana State Police has named Rodney Hyatt the new commander of Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA.

LSP officials made the announcement on Thursday, May 9.

According to a news release, Hyatt joined the LSP in 1998 and has worked in multiple units including patrol, public affairs, research and policy, grants and budgeting and evidence control.

LSP officials said Hyatt will be the first permanent troop commander for Troop NOLA and will take the place of Valentine Emery III, who served as interim captain.

The release states Hyatt earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing/management from Nicholls State University and a master’s degree in security science from the Naval Postgraduate School.

The appointment follows Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry’s announcement of a larger state police presence in New Orleans.
