Louisiana State Police to hold child safety seat checks for caregivers in Covington

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — Troopers with the Louisiana State Police will host a passenger safety seat check event at a Covington Walmart store on Saturday, March 9.

Troopers will be holding seat checks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 880 North U.S. Highway 190, regardless of weather conditions.

Troopers said it’s proven that car seats save lives. The event will ensure caregivers properly restrain children in their child safety seat, booster seat or seat belt.

Lacombe residents concerned about number of sex offenders in area

“Approximately three out of four child seats are not used correctly. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children’s weights and heights, and the vast array of vehicles in today’s market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status,” said troopers.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over the past 30 years, about 11,000 lives have been saved by child restraints.
