Louisiana State Police charge Baton Rouge man with insurance fraud and theft

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man identified as an insurance producer for the Baton Rouge Police Union was arrested after an investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

Albert Frederick Peterson III, 66, of Baton Rouge was charged with insurance fraud and theft.

The Louisiana Department of Insurance shared information with the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit Baton Rouge Field Office about insurance fraud and theft allegations, LSP said.

Investigators got information starting in November 2022 from the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Peterson is accused of “conducting fraudulent activities and or theft related to insurance products provided to the Baton Rouge Police Union,” according to LSP.

According to LSP, investigators identified 26 separate times premium and insurance refunds totaling over $30,000 for BRPD Union members that were fraudulently obtained and misappropriated between May 2019 and May 2021.

Peterson was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday, March 18. He was released from prison on a $30,000 bond.

The United States Department of Labor and the Louisiana Department of Insurance assisted Louisiana State Police with this investigation.
