Louisiana is one of the most anxious states in US, study shows
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new study ranked Louisiana as No. 2 in the nation for anxiety.
Leafwell analyzed CDC data showing the percentage of adults with anxiety disorder symptoms. Nationwide, data shows that 28.7% of adults report that they have anxiety disorder symptoms.
“There are many types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. These vary in how common they are in the population, with younger people being more susceptible to symptoms of social anxiety or generalized anxiety disorders,” a spokesperson for Leafwell said.
Burnout, harassment driving mental health crisis in health care workers
The most anxious state, according to data, is West Virginia, with 40.1% of its population reporting anxiety symptoms.
Louisiana ranked second with 36.6% of the population reporting anxiety symptoms. A National Alliance on Mental Illness report shows that 18% of residents couldn’t get the therapy required for treatment and 8% of the population was uninsured.
