Louisiana is one of the most affordable states to save for a home, study says

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana is among the top 10 states for those trying to save for a home, a study says.

Real estate experts at Agent Advice looked at median incomes and house values in the U.S. They used this data to find the states with the best income-to-house price ratio. The results from this data showed the most affordable areas for aspiring homeowners.

West Virginia was named as the top state for those looking to save for a deposit.

The study placed Louisiana at ninth, adding that the typical property costs $194,453. The state’s median annual household income is $55,416. Some of the best places to buy a home near Baton Rouge include Sorrento, Watson and Prairieville, according to Niche.

The only other southern state in the top 10 was Mississippi at sixth. According to the study, the typical property costs $172,965. Mississippi’s low cost of living allows its residents to stretch their average salary of $52,719.
