Louisiana man charged in Jan. 6 attack is now facing new, unrelated federal gun, ammo charges

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Louisiana man facing charges in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack has new federal gun charges following his arrest. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a grand jury in Louisiana has indicted him on new, unrelated counts.

Edward Richmond Jr., 40, of Louisiana, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 22. At that time, he was charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Charges included assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds.

A federal grand jury recently indicted him on new charges. Richmond is accused of possessing a “Windham Weaponry, model WW-15, .223/5.56 mm caliber rifle and approximately 73 rounds of ammunition” on Jan. 22, according to the DOJ news release.

The DOJ said he was charged “with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a previously convicted felon and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions.”

The Louisiana man remains in Washington, D.C., where he will eventually take part in a “disposition of pending charges related to allegations of him participating in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol,” DOJ said.

Richmond will be sent to Baton Rouge for arraignment on the new charges in the Middle District of Louisiana.
