Louisiana group offers free food, more to Slidell tornado victims

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — After being slammed by a tornado less than one month ago, the Louisiana General Emission Baptist Convention has gathered in Slidell to offer boxes filled with groceries to residents.

“We are not just home praying for them or talking to them. We are out here walking with them, feeding them and letting them that we are here to help them. Not just today but any other time we can,” said Louisiana General Emission Baptist Convention Vice President at Large Bishop Will Fred Johnson.

As more and more cars pulled up for boxed food, they also received a hot meal. This is something the organization says is beneficial.

“The faces smile at what we are doing for them. They don’t see this as some handout that we are coming to give them but an act of ministry and love that is coming from our heart to theirs,” said Louisiana General Emission Baptist Convention Vice President of Boards George Burris.

Burris is grateful that many are also helping those without transportation who live in the area.

“Thank you to the people who do have transportation who are bringing their neighbors and loved ones up here with them. So, it’s not just an opportunity to bless their household but others. That means a lot to us,” said Burris.

Overall, the organization says helping those affected by disasters is something God has placed in their hearts to do, as they’ll always come when others need them the most.

“We stand with them no matter what the situation is. We are here to support and help. So, when there is a disaster, we are coming from all over to help those in need,” said Louisiana General Emission Baptist Convention President Robert Myers.

Mobile app developers, including Patreon and Grammarly, are already integrating with Gemini Nano, its smallest AI model, the company announced during the Google I/O 2024 developer keynote on Tuesday.
