Louisiana DOTD warns drivers of new text message scam asking for toll payments

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — State officials warn Louisiana residents about a new text message scam where scammers claim to be toll agencies asking for outstanding toll payments.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said scammers direct recipients to an unaffiliated website and ask individuals to provide personal and financial information to settle alleged balances.

LADOTD said it is important for everyone to be aware of this ongoing scam. The agency said people should not click on any suspicious links they get via text.

“DOTD will never request payment through unsolicited messages,” LADOTD said.
