Louisiana crawfish prices are going down. See how much you could be paying this week

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Easter is less than one month away. For some, that means Easter egg hunts and crawfish boils.

It has been a rough start to the year for those who love crawfish. The average price for boiled crawfish has remained high. Last weekend, boiled crawfish cost around $8.99 per pound.

For crawfish lovers, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App, shares some good news about the average price of boiled and live crawfish.

She said that there was a price drop at the docks on Tuesday, March 6, meaning that many vendors dropped their prices. Prices are expected to drop through this week too, King said.

What should people expect live and boiled crawfish to cost this upcoming weekend? King said, “Crawfish prices should average around $7.99 per pound for boiled crawfish this upcoming weekend, with prices as low as $5.99 per pound right now on The Crawfish App.”

For live crawfish, consumers should expect to see an average of around $5.99 per pound this weekend, according to King.

King said that preliminary numbers are showing her that by this weekend, the average live crawfish price will have gone down by $1.50 compared to last weekend.

More vendors are selling live crawfish on The Crawfish App this week and the “influx is helping drive the live crawfish price down even more than the $1 per pound drop at the dock,” said King.

“Fishermen and farmers are telling us their catches are up, meaning crawfish supply is increasing every day and the season is finally really kicking off,” said King. “We’ve also noticed an increase in the number of crawfish businesses opening up their doors this past week, making prices more competitive for consumers.”
