Louisiana 4-star college football recruit Tackett Curtis of Many narrows choices to three

Many safety/linebacker Tackett Curtis, one of Louisiana’s top-tier recruits, has narrowed his extensive list of offers to just three.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound speedster, who hits like a Mack truck, announced on Twitter that his finalists are Ohio State, Wisconsin and USC.

“I feel like each school would be a great fit for me and what I want to accomplish as a college football player,” Curtis told The Times. “I have a great relationship with all of the coaches and staff from each school and I feel like that goes a long way. Every school has the resources that I would need to succeed at the next level and become the best version of myself that I can be.

“It’s gonna be a hard choice between the three. Every school is very different, but they are all great schools. I’m very blessed to have the opportunity to play at any of them.”

A four-star linebacker per 247Sports, Curtis had 128 tackles, including 18 for a loss, with four interceptions and three forced fumbles in 2021. He’s been the Outstanding Defensive Player for two consecutive seasons on the LSWA Class 2A All-State team. He also had offers from 10 SEC schools including LSU, Texas A&M and Arkansas. Curtis also had an offer from Notre Dame.

Many football coach Jess Curtis, Tackett’s uncle, said he believes The Times 2021 All-Area Defensive Player of the Year has picked three “great programs” that have recruited him “hard” for well over a year.

“(USC coach) Lincoln Riley and linebacker coach Brian Odom at USC have recruited him hard going back to OU,” Curtis said. “Riley calls and FaceTimes him often. We feel like USC is fixing to be back like the Pete Carroll era under Lincoln.”

Wisconsin has long been in the running for Curtis after developing a relationship through linebacker coach Bobby April and defensive coordinator Jim Leonard.

“They have pushed hard for him. They have a great culture and boasted their track record with linebackers and their No. 1 defense last year,” Curtis said.

“Ohio State has been another school that has gone above and beyond in recruiting Tackett. DC Jim Knowles and Ryan Day have burned up the phone lines building their relationship.”

Knowles started recruiting Tackett while he was at Oklahoma State, but was hired by Ohio State last winter.

“The first recruiting trip he took was to fly down and offer Tackett to Ohio State,” Curtis said. “These schools checked all the boxes for Tackett and built great relationships with him.”

He took an official visit to all three schools in June.

“Now he wants to take some time and make a good decision in July, so that he can get that settled and focus on his senior year at Many High School,” Curtis said.
