FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) arrested a Lorton man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend.

FCPD officers responded to Mount Vernon Hospital in Hybla Valley on Wednesday evening around 11:35 p.m. Police said that Huy Tien Nguyen, 47, had brought his girlfriend, Alison “Kate” LaPorta, 38, to the hospital. LaPorta had a gunshot wound in her upper body.

Responders took LaPorta to Fairfax Hospital, where she died.

FCPD said that Nguyen first told investigators that the shooting happened in a parking lot, but “detectives disproved that allegation,” instead finding that Nguyen had shot LaPorta inside the car before driving her to the hospital.

Police found his gun near his home in Lorton.

FCPD arrested Nguyen and charged him with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He was held without bond.
