Dec. 23—Dec. 23, 1948, in The Star: Authorization for the YMCA building committee to proceed with plans for a local YMCA building was approved in a meeting of the YMCA boards yesterday. The boards gave the committee power to develop plans, engage an architect and start construction as soon as possible. The structure will be on West 14th Street near the northeast corner of Gurnee Avenue.

Dec. 23, 1998, in The Star: Jacksonville State University has received 52 applications in its search for a new president to succeed Dr. Harold McGee, who will retire next year. Jack Hopper, facilitator of the search committee, said specific information on who the candidates are will be kept confidential at this stage.
