Look Back ... to the imminent debut of a new Hobson City PD, 1999

Apr. 29—April 29, 1949, in The Star: The new International House at Jacksonville State Teachers College, made possible by the citizens of Anniston, Jacksonville, Gadsden and other Alabama cities, was formally dedicated this afternoon. The ceremony, held in the college gymnasium because of inclement weather, was opened by the JSTC band. The idea for the International House was conceived by Dr. T. H. Jones, head of the foreign language department of JSTC. It is used as a place for American and foreign students to eat, work and play together, and thereby promote international understanding.

April 29, 1999, in The Star: The town of Hobson City will officially resurrect its police department to begin patrolling again starting in four days. The Town Council has hired two police officers, who will be introduced tomorrow evening. All police calls will be dispatched through the City of Oxford, which recently donated a used police car to Hobson City. Hobson City will pay the officers' salaries — between $10.98 and $12.10 per hour. Oxford police Chief Stanley Merrill is acting as a temporary unpaid adviser to the department until it can hire its own chief. Hobson City disbanded its previous police department in June 1996.
