Looking forward to York County's first Wawa?

The Evening Sun obtained the final plans for the Hanover area's very first Wawa, which has now finished the approval process from the Penn Township Board of Commissioners.

In a previous meeting, Justin Geonnotti, from Dynamic Engineering, said the plans for the Wawa occupy roughly two acres of what is currently Pine Creek Structures at 1007 Baltimore St. in Penn Township.

The Wawa will have 69 parking spaces, eight fuel pumps with 16 fueling positions, and a fueling canopy on the Clover Lane side of the lot.

All access to the Wawa will be through the current shopping center at Penn Plaza, with no direct access off of Baltimore Street.

The parking area for the Wawa will sit below the level of the sidewalk on Baltimore Street, with a retaining wall and a 42-inch aluminum fence to prevent anyone from falling from the sidewalk into the parking area.

An ADA compliant ramp will allow pedestrian access from the corner of Baltimore Street and Clover Lane.

There will be three landscaped islands with trees toward the Baltimore Street side of the lot.

The plans provide room for the future addition of up to 12 electric vehicle charging stations on the south side of the parking area.

The current occupant of the land, Pine Creek structures, is preparing to move several miles farther down Baltimore Street to a new lot at the intersection of Tollgate Road and Baltimore Pike.

While that new lot is already in the process of being developed, weather-related delays and permitting have held up some of that process, said Pine Creek structures Hanover manager, Jesse Rinehart. As of December, the move was not expected for "several months," Rinehart said at the time.

Pine Creek Structures is continuing to hold a moving sale as they work on selling off stock to prepare for the move, according to the business' Facebook page.
