Longtime Tri-Cities school leader spending 38 hours on a rooftop. Here’s why

You’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf. But how about “the sup” on the roof?

Liberty Christian School Superintendent Jim Cochran pledged to spend 38 hours this week on top of the school’s roof after a successful fundraising campaign. He climbed a ladder Monday afternoon as students cheered him on.

The “avid outdoorsman” will spend two nights atop the building with a tent, stove, food and supplies.

“I operate with an ‘open door’ policy in the office, so I guess this will be an ‘open roof’ for those that need to connect,” Cochran said in a statement.

The commitment to spend time on top of the school came during their annual Patriot Auction fundraiser. Money raised keeps tuition accessible for families and benefits the school’s capital campaign to renovate its fine arts wing.

Corchran volunteered to stay on the roof for one hour for every $200 raised. In the end, the campaign raised $7,600.

Liberty Christian School is a Richland-based, Christian private school that offers families a biblically-based education based in prayer and faith.
