CANTON – A longtime Canton-area physician who delivered many infants in Stark County died Thursday, according to a statement posted by his office.

Dr. Albert Domingo, an obstetrician-gynecologist who practiced medicine for more than four decades, was 72 years old.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Albert T. Domingo MS MD, who passed away peacefully March 28th, 2024," the message states via www.drdomingo.com. "Further information will be relayed as it becomes available. Please give his family and staff privacy at this time."

Domingo, who specialized in obstetrics, gynecology and internal medicine, was a practicing physician at Aultman Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine.

"We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Domingo. (He) was a longtime member of Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital's medical staff and cared for many of our caregivers," Dr. Timothy Crone, vice president at the medical center, said in a prepared statement.

"He was known as a dedicated and caring physician, who treated any and all patients in need," added Crone. "We extend our sympathies to his family, and he will be greatly missed here at Mercy."

Anne Gunther, chief operating officer of Aultman Healthcare Delivery System, called Domingo "a renowned member of the Stark County medical family."

"His excellent care and guidance provided a foundation for young families to build on before, during and after the arrivals of their newest members," Gunther said. "We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing, but grateful for his 35 years of dedicated service to Aultman Hospital that enriched so many lives in our community."

In 2011, Domingo purchased the former Army Reserve armory in the 3100 block of Parkway Drive NW near Meyers Lake and transformed the building into a medical-service center with multiple physicians and medical specialists.
