Longs woman faces fleeing, drug charges after 100 mph chase on Ocean Boulevard, report says

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A woman led Horry County authorities on a chase exceeding 100 mph Friday night along a section of Ocean Boulevard before she was caught and arrested, according to a police report.

Krystall Elaine Cox of Longs was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of failure to stop for a blue light and trafficking in methamphetamine or cocaine.

Horry County police tried to stop Cox’s Ford Focus at about 9:50 p.m. Friday for driving through stop sign and speeding at 17th Avenue S. and Ocean Boulevard, according to the report, which shows that Cox was “driving at excessive speeds with a clear disregard for civilian foot traffic.”

After refusing to stop, the police report said Cox continued speeding south on Ocean Boulevard, accelerating to more than 100 mph. She then drove through a gas station parking lot before making a northbound turn onto Highway 17 Business.

Cox then drove over spike sticks deployed by an officer at Highway 17 Business near 29th Avenue S., and the vehicle’s tires then began to “disintegrate” as she turned left onto 17th Avenue S., the report said.

After turning right onto Highway 15, the report said Cox pulled the car into a driveway and got out and ran from officers. She was caught about 20 feet from the vehicle.

During the foot pursuit, officers saw her holding a clear plastic bag containing a white substance in her left hand that she later tried to throw away, the report said. Officers eventually seized about 28 grams of what they believed was crack cocaine.

After taking Cox to jail, authorities determined that Cox had a criminal history that included three narcotics convictions within 10 years. As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained in the Horry County jail on bonds totaling $55,000.
