Longmont giving away surplus wood

Jan. 15—Longmont is giving away ponderosa pine and Douglas fir logs on a first come, first served basis.

The logs are from a forest stewardship project at Button Rock Preserve that was completed to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect the city's drinking water.

Approximately 8 feet long, the logs are located roughly eight-tenths of a mile north of Colo. 66 on North 53rd Street, on the south side of the road.

Those interested in accessing the wood must first read and digitally sign a liability release, which is available on the city's website. Applicants will be emailed access information to the log yard within 48 hours of submitting their liability release form.
