The University of Texas has created a donation website where fans can help star sophomore Andrew Jones and his family pay for leukemia treatment.
The site, called HornRaiser, was created Friday. In the hours since it has been live, fans have donated over $37,000 in support of Jones.
On Wednesday, the team announced Jones was undergoing treatments for leukemia. Later that night, the team won an emotional double overtime game against TCU. Following the win, Texas coach Shaka Smart said the team “really wanted to win for Andrew.”
According to the fundraising website, the money raised “will directly benefit Andrew and his family by assisting with medical and necessary family expenses as permitted within NCAA rules.”
The site also mentions that this is the only fundraising page for Jones that has been approved by his family.
In 10 games this season, Jones is the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game.
