Long-time Adams County eatery closing after 23 years

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A long-time eatery that is most known for its cheesesteaks and fresh-cut fries will soon be closing in Adams County.

Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe is owned and operated by Midstate natives Scott and Donna Hunt, who first opened the doors to their establishment in Gettysburg back in 2001. The long-time seasonal eatery is located right across the street from the Jennie Wade House on 61 Steinwehr Avenue.

According to their website, Scott Hunt first started a fresh-cut fry business in Stone Harbor, NJ in the mid-1990s, which is around the time when he first met Donna. After six years, Scott and Donna moved back home to Central Pennsylvania where they would eventually open their eatery in Gettysburg.

Currently, Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Recently, owner and operator Scott Hunt confirmed in an email to abc27 news that he would be stepping down and retiring at the end of this year’s season in November 2024. Hunt says that he is hoping to find someone to purchase the business and possibly keep it the same.

Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe’s current hours of operation are:

  • Sundays // 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Mondays // 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Thursdays // 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Fridays – Saturdays // 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

According to Scott, every season that Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Cafe is open he makes about 10,000 cheesesteaks.
