Long Island school bus driver accused of sexually abusing young girl for months

A school bus driver on Long Island has been arrested on suspicion he sexually abused a young girl on several occasions between May 2022 and October 2023, authorities said.

Miguel Enrique Diaz, 47, was arrested at his Bay Shore home late Wednesday night, the Daily Voice Suffolk County reported. He was charged with one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Diaz works as a Suffolk Transportation bus driver for Bay Shore Middle School and Brook Elementary School, Suffolk County Police said.

Bay Shore Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon.

Police say the alleged abuse began when the victim was 12 years old.

An investigation by Special Victims Section detectives got underway in early March after a community therapist contacted police, WABC reported.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case, or who believes their child may be a victim, to contact the Suffolk County Police Department at 631-852-6531.

Bay Shore is a hamlet in the Town of Islip, located some 50 miles west of Manhattan.
