Long Island Rail Road boasts best on-time performance in over a decade

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The Long Island Rail Road had the best on-time performance for the month of February, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The agency said that 96% of trains were on schedule, a major achievement that surpassed the previous record from 12 years ago. Th LIRR also added 6,400 trains monthy and 271 trains daily to account for the opening of Grand Central Madison.

“New York leads the nation in public transportation, and our commuter rail network is moving New Yorkers at a record pace,” Governor Hochul said.

The Metro North also recorded high on-time performance in February. The agency said the railroad had the “best month in its history on East of Hudson service with a nearly perfect on-time performance of 99.3 percent on Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines.”
