Long-awaited Sonic, Buffalo Wild Wings, other restaurants to open in Green Township

If you live on the West Side, chances are you're used to long wait times at restaurants. Green Township wants to change that.

A slew of new eateries and other developments are on the way, including Sonic, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin' Donuts Hampton Inn and Tractor Supply locations. Other projects are coming too, township administrator Frank Birkenhauer said.

The township of nearly 60,000 took the crown as the second-largest township in Ohio after the 2020 Census. Plus, the health care industry is booming, with Christ, Cincinnati Children's and Good Samaritan satellite locations.

Couple that census-confirmed population growth and new workers in need of a lunch spot, and getting new restaurants in the area became a big priority.

"I think that pent-up demand is one of the reasons why we're at a need for more restaurants in Green Township and this area," Birkenhauer said. "We really have been marketing Green Township as a destination for some of these new restaurants to locate, and I think it's been pretty effective."

Green Township Board of Trustees chairman Triffon Callos said in a statement the township has experienced tremendous growth in employment and population in the last few years.

"New local and national restaurant brands have taken notice and are seeking out locations in Green Township.," he said.

Sonic will have a four-seasons door dining room that can seat up to 20 people, with 15 pull-up car stalls, patio seating for 16, and a two-lane drive-thru.

There are only two others of its kind in the U.S., said James Kautz, owner and president of JRCJ Investment Corp. The dining room is a new concept to Sonic, which typically only has car stalls and patio seating. The dining room will operate the same way as the stalls and patio with a button and a speakerphone to make an order.

"The trend these days are less people," he said. "It's no different than when you order at the bar or patio."

Sonic and Hampton Inn are expected to open in September. Opening dates for others weren't available.
